    The Water-Saving Shower Head

Hansgrohe Crometta EcoSmart water-saving shower head

Endurism Spotlight: The Water-Saving Shower Head

The most expensive thing in your bathroom is the hot water running down the drain.

    The money

You pay for a shower twice, for the water and for the heat that warms it. Gas in the Netherlands now costs about €1,68 per cubic metre. The drinking water underneath it adds about €1,34 per cubic metre. A long daily shower spends this money every morning without you ever seeing it go.

A standard shower head pushes nine to twelve litres a minute. A water-saving head delivers the same pressure on about six. You feel the same shower. Your boiler works far less.

    The object

The Hansgrohe Crometta EcoSmart costs €34,52. Inside sits a flow limiter that holds the rate near six litres a minute, whatever your pressure does. The green silicone nozzles rub clean, so limescale never chokes the spray. Hansgrohe backs it for years and sells the spare parts.

This is where durability earns its keep. A cheap head clogs within a season. The spray weakens, so most people tear the limiter out to get the pressure back. The saving only counts if the head is still doing its job in year ten. A quality EcoSmart head holds its rated flow for the life of the bathroom.

    The math

The government's figure for an average household is concrete. A water-saving head saves about 7.500 litres of hot water a year. It also saves roughly 44 cubic metres of gas. At late-2026 prices that is on the order of €80 a year, for the price of one part.

The head pays itself back in under six months. After that it is pure return. How much you keep depends on how long you shower and on your own gas and water prices. A household with a big rain shower stands to save considerably more. A home heating its water with electricity or a heat pump keeps the water saving and shifts the energy side.

    Ownership

You fit it once with your hands, no plumber, in about two minutes. Then it works unnoticed for fifteen years and longer. There is nothing to subscribe to and nothing to replace. The money it keeps was money you were pouring away warm, shower after shower, without ever watching it leave.
