    Endurism Spotlight: The Pizza Oven

A weekly pizza night costs about twelve euros a pizza when someone else bakes it. Over ten years that is more than six thousand euros handed to a delivery app.

Bake the same pizza at home and the ingredients cost around two and a half euros. The gap is the whole story.

    The object

An Ooni Koda 12 reaches roughly 450 degrees. A kitchen oven stops near 250. That heat is why a pizzeria base blisters in a minute while a home-oven base dries out. The Ooni gives you the pizzeria result in your own garden.

The Koda runs on gas and has a single burner. There is very little to fail. The shell is stainless steel. The baking stone lifts straight out, and Ooni stocks replacement stones, burners and regulators as spare parts. Ten years of weekend baking sits well within its range.

    The math

Order a pizza and you pay around twelve euros, often more once delivery lands on top. Bake it on the Ooni and the ingredients come to roughly two and a half euros. A ball of dough, a tin of San Marzano tomatoes, a mozzarella. Every pizza you bake instead of order keeps about nine and a half euros.

The oven costs 349 euros. It pays for itself after about thirty-seven pizzas. For a household with a weekly pizza night, that is nine months.

    Per pizza€12€2,50
    One year, weekly€624€479 (oven included)
    Ten years, weekly€6.240€1.649

After the first year the oven is paid off and every pizza runs at ingredient cost. The ten-year gap sits around 4.600 euros.

    Ownership

The Ooni earns its money twice. It cuts the weekly bill. It also holds its price, because used Koda ovens sell quickly on Marktplaats for a solid share of new. Most kitchen gadgets depreciate to zero in a drawer. This one keeps a resale floor and a stone you can swap forever.

The steel darkens over a season of fires. The stone stains deep brown. Both are proof the thing is earning its place.

Own better. A weekly pizza night pays off the Ooni in nine months and then saves you around 490 euros a year.
