    1. NCO ledger (3 years)

The Greenland Jacket against the fast-fashion shell.

Honest at three years. The cheap shell wins the cash. Two throwaway shells run about €120 and the jacket runs €395.

The gap closes the moment you keep wearing it. The wax shell goes for years. The throwaway shell goes for one. A €16,25 tin of Greenland Wax reproofs it every winter, and the G-1000 holds for a decade or longer.

The patina dividend applies. Waxed cotton deepens and softens with age. Fjällräven holds resale on the secondhand market, so a worn jacket keeps a floor under it. The throwaway shell goes to landfill at zero.

    2. Long-form

The shoulders and elbows of this jacket carry a double layer of fabric. That is where a jacket dies first. Fjällräven built those panels twice as thick on purpose.

The Greenland Jacket is an outdoor classic from 1968. The fabric is G-1000, a tight weave of recycled polyester and organic cotton. You reproof it with Greenland Wax, a block of beeswax and paraffin. Rub it in, warm it with a hairdryer, and the weather runs off. Wax it more for rain. Wax it less for breathability. The jacket adapts to the season instead of forcing you to buy two.

Be honest about what it is. This is a water-resistant wax shell. It is not a hardshell. The hood does not go fully waterproof, even after several coats. The fit runs large. For a downpour you want a membrane jacket. For everyday cold and drizzle, worn for fifteen years, this is the one.

€395 new at bol.com. A fast-fashion shell costs sixty to a hundred and twenty euros. There the choice looks settled. Wear both for three years. The cheap shell has thinned, pilled and split a seam. The Greenland is on its third winter and its second waxing. Over a decade you buy one jacket and a few tins of wax. The other path buys five jackets and bins all of them.

The jacket gets better with age. The wax works into the weave. The colour settles. Fjällräven runs a repair and care system, and the secondhand demand stays high. You are not renting a coat each winter. You own one and reproof it.

The Greenland Winter version is produced without PFAS. The wax is beeswax and paraffin. That is the quiet part. The cost math is the loud part.

    3. Verdict card

EN (etalage): A €16 tin of wax and a hairdryer. The same jacket, reproofed every winter, worn for fifteen years.

    Own better.

    4. VO-script (EN, 45 to 90 sec)

Documentary narrator. Calm. One line per shot. No talking head.

This jacket is from 1968. [macro: the double-layer fabric at the shoulder] The shoulders and elbows are built twice as thick. [a block of wax, a hand rubbing it into the weave] You reproof it yourself. Beeswax and a hairdryer. [water beading and running off the fabric] Sixteen euros of wax. Every winter. [a fast-fashion shell, a split seam, discarded] The cheap shell lasts one season. [the same Greenland jacket, worn, on a person in drizzle] This one lasts fifteen years. [product still on bone white] Own better.

    • LinkedIn (EN). Angle: adapt instead of replace. Opening line: "A €16 tin of wax keeps a jacket waterproof for fifteen years. Fast fashion sells you a new shell every season." Body: G-1000, double-layer panels, resale floor. No hashtag noise.
