A used Bugaboo Fox from a few years back still sells for around €450 on Marktplaats today. The budget pushchair bought beside it sells for nothing. That gap is the whole argument.
Most baby gear is money you set fire to. A cheap three-in-one pram costs about €169. The wheels seize within a year and the fabric tears not long after. Inside one child it starts to fail. Bring a second child into the house and you buy the pram again. Every euro of it is gone.
The Bugaboo Fox 5 is built the other way. Bugaboo has made prams in Amsterdam since 1999. The chassis is aluminium. The seat reverses, the suspension is sealed, the frame carries a child from birth through the toddler years. When a wheel wears, you buy the wheel. Bugaboo and its dealers sell front swivel wheels, rear wheels, bassinet fabric sets and canopies as loose parts. You replace thirty euro of pram instead of the whole machine.
Here is the money over two children and roughly eight years.
| Bugaboo Fox 5 | Budget three-in-one | |
|---|---|---|
| New price | €1.279 | €169 |
| Over eight years | one pram, a wheel or fabric set when needed | two or three prams, around €400 in total |
| Resale after | €375 to €500 | €0 |
| What you keep | an asset worth hundreds | nothing |
The Fox costs more up front. The point is what happens to that money. Around €450 of it comes back when you sell. The €400 spent on budget prams comes back as nothing. One purchase behaves like a parked asset. The other behaves like a bill you pay again and again.
Resale is the quiet reward here. Bugaboo holds value the way few baby products do. A four-year-old Fox still commands half its price because parents trust the frame and the parts are still made. You buy at €1.279, you use it hard for years, you hand €450 back to yourself at the end.
The pram also gets better to own. The aluminium takes a few honest marks and wears them well. The fabric washes and returns. A pram you can strip and rebuild is a pram you keep for years. Later you pass it to a sibling or sell it to a family who wants one that lasts.
Verdict. Buy the Fox once and it hands €450 back at resale while the budget pile returns nothing.
