A €25 hand blender lasts about four years before the motor burns out or the collar cracks. Then it goes in the bin and a new one takes its place.

The Bamix has been made in Switzerland since 1954. It runs a 200-watt motor sealed inside a metal body with almost nothing to wear out. Bamix gives that motor a lifetime guarantee for home use. The blades, whisks and beakers sit on the tool as parts you unscrew and swap. You can order every one of them loose for years. The brand still repairs the machines it sold decades ago.

Run the arithmetic over thirty years, the working life a Bamix motor is built to reach. The Swiss machine costs €229 once. The €25 blender gets replaced seven or eight times across the same span, so it quietly costs around €200. The cash is close. What separates the two paths is where the money ends up.

A used Bamix in good order sells for €100 to €175 on Marktplaats today. A like-new red M200 recently listed at €130. That is more than half the purchase price handed back to you years later. The €25 blender comes back as nothing. It holds no value the day you unbox it and none the day it dies.

This is the patina dividend in its plainest form. A quality tool amortises across the decades you own it. A throwaway one only depreciates, then leaves a landfill trail of eight dead plastic bodies behind it. Your money either sits in a Swiss tool you can sell or leaks out of the house in €25 increments.

Verdict: buy the Bamix once and stop feeding the bin a new blender every four years.
